Felice San Valentino!
I know it’s belated, but hey, I love anything that gets people talking about love.
Plus, Florence celebrates the holiday all week long with its annual chocolate festival. Piazza della Repubblica transforms into chocolate avenue for 10 days (from Feb. 10 to 19) with dozens of tents giving and selling handmade treats by master chocolatiers from all over Italy.
The chocolates are works of art and almost too beautiful to eat. I’ve seen chocolate animals, shoes, tools and even espresso makers.

More espresso makers… and shoes!
The true way into a man’s heart: chocolate tools.
Liquid chocolate. It’s a real thing.

If only I had seen these chocolate masks before Carnevale…
We also celebrated in Italian class, exchanging love letters, candies and trinkets. Kate and I spent most of Valentine’s evening on a dinner date at my favorite restaurant, Il Gatto e la Volpe.
We drank wine, laughed about past loves and talked about our goals for the remaining months in Florence. At the end of the day, I couldn’t imagine anywhere I’d rather be.
Happy Valentine’s Day to all! You are loved. 🙂
